Dave Hughes will be co-hosting 2Day FM's new Sydney breakfast show with Ed Kavalee and Erin Molan.

And now the comedian has admitted he was never going to let 2Day FM's cursed breakfast slot scare him from accepting the gig.

'Absolutely (I bit off more than I can chew), but I love radio,' the 50-year-old told the told the Sydney Morning Herald on Saturday.

Hughesy continued: 'I really want to live in Sydney. When the network has gone, "We've got long-term faith in you" ... you're crazy not to do it.'

Since Kyle Sandilands and Jackie 'O' Henderson famously quit the station over seven years ago, thirteen hosts have come and gone. 

Speaking of 2Day FM's rating woes, Dave said: 'The past is the past... It's not going to be an overnight [success] but I'm going to enjoy every day.'

Dave announced that he would be relocating from Melbourne to Sydney for the gig back in November. 

'I've lived here since 1995 so it'll be fun to try another part of Australia for a while,' he said at the time.

Hughesy added that Holly and their three children - Rafferty, Sadie and Tess - will follow him to Sydney once coronavirus border restrictions ease.

His decision to accept the radio gig and relocate to Sydney comes at no surprise.

The popular comedian will return to the judging panel for Channel 10's zany show, The Masked Singer, which is believed to have relocated production back to Sydney.

The 2Day FM Morning Crew with Hughesy, Ed, and Erin will kick off on January 18
