Monsters are not born, they are made.

An all-new disturbing series from American Horror Story creator Ryan Murphy is set to hit out screens on Netflix.

Telling the origin story of the villainous Nurse Ratched immortalised by Oscar-winner Louise Fletcher in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Ratched sees Emmy-winner Sarah Paulson take on the iconic role.

Alongside Paulson we can already see an all-star cast, including Sex and the City icon Cynthia Nixon and Oscar-winning screen siren Sharon Stone.

With the series already confirmed to have a second run, it seems the sinister Nurse Ratched is here to stay.

So, when can Paulson fans expect Ratched to hit their screens?

Ratched on Netflix release date

Ratched season 1 is released on Netflix on September 18, 2020.

The first season will consist of eight episodes and all will be released simultaneously on Netflix.

Ratched plot

The first season will chart the origin story of Nurse Ratched as we see her arrive at Lucia State Hospital and begin her journey through the mental health services system with a mysterious plan in mind.

The official plot synopsis reads: "In 1947, Mildred arrives in Northern California to seek employment at a leading psychiatric hospital where new and unsettling experiments have begun on the human mind.

"On a clandestine mission, Mildred presents herself as the perfect image of what a dedicated nurse should be, but the wheels are always turning and as she begins to infiltrate the mental health care system and those within it, Mildred’s stylish exterior belies a growing darkness that has long been smoldering within, revealing that true monsters are made, not born."

A second season has already been confirmed so prepare for Ratched to continue in style!
