Wallal Downs Station

Circa 1922

State library WA

In 1922 the eyes of the world were fixed on a small outback station in Western Australia.

Wallal Downs Station a remote station 30km south of Broome on an eighty-mile beach was deemed the most ideal place on earth to view the total eclipse of the sun and to prove

Albert Einstein’s theory of General Relativity.

With the combined efforts of experts from around the world, and the perfect location in Western Australia, Einstein’s theory of Relativity was proven.

Enjoyed the Einstein series in which Geoffrey Rush portrayed Albert. They detailed the first failed attempt at observing the eclipse which the war delayed. Glad Aussies were among the global team that saw the Gravitational lensing.
