Marvel, DC and Amazon, and Netflix originals – this compilation of upcoming 2021 superhero TV series is getting us super excited for what will be a year of brilliant, action-filled and powerful television. Some already released, some with determined release dates, and some a complete mystery due to filming and production restrictions, we hope to see them all come out this year.
Marvel Studios has completely intrigued us with this surreal account of the only real relationship that blossomed in the Avengers group films. Did Vision die or was that our imagination? Introducing Marvel’s multiverse and alternative realities, this story could go any direction, making us exceedingly excited about this series. It was also filmed in front of a studio audience, giving this quirky concept a different, vintage dimension. Now available to us to stream, we can hardly wait for this extraordinary, retro superhero series to develop.
The CW has renewed this engaging series for a second season, much to fans’ relief. However, all isn’t what we expected with the lead character completely changed and the story exchanged for a brand new one. We are sure Kate’s exit will all be explained in the first episode as her suit is found by a homeless girl named Ryan Wilder. With two Big Bads expected in this season, will this new Batwoman be up to the task or will she dive into the shadows, with this suit finally giving her power after a life of being the victim? The last two episodes of season one were delayed into season two due to the Covid-19 pandemic and this has allowed more time to tinker with the script, producing an epic start to this season – already available to us to start streaming.
The CW strikes again with a new series about our most loved superhero and his sweetheart, Lois Lane. Never a dull moment in the life of a superhero, Superman and Lois try to raise their two children in today’s society where the day to day challenges for us mortals could prove one of the most formidable tests for Superman ever. Do the boys have the same Kryptonian superpowers? We will find out as the story begins on the 23rd of February.
Bad guy favourites, time travel, and the threat that The Flash could finally stop running; we are sure that series 7 of this long-running show will deliver on all levels. Connecting the two halves of season six together, Barry could finally find his way back to Iris and sources state Killer Frost also has a surprise (romantic?) storyline. With none of the actors actually contracted for longer than seven seasons, this could be the most anticipated season yet. Due to premiere on 23rd February.
Already announced the last of the Black Lightning chapters, season 4 expects to wrap up the incredible journey we have witnessed in this corner of the Arrowverse. All is not lost as the CW network has announced a new spinoff series entitled Painkiller with the lead portrayed by the same actor, Jordan Calloway. Following the approval of the creation of the school for metahumans which was obtained in the season 3 finale, this season is expected to continue that storyline and delve deeper into the secret complications within the Pierce family. Coming on the 8th of February.
Marvel Studios and Disney+ are bringing us this exciting new pairing in March. Sam Wilson, who was passed Captain America’s shield at the end of Avengers: Endgame, and Bucky, the well-known winter soldier, are back testing each other’s patience and the scope of their abilities as they fight evil anarchist group, the Flag-Smashers. We are also over the moon to see actor Daniel Bruhl return to his MCU role, Baron Helmut Zemo. Shifting the focus onto these two characters, MCU are promising a ‘cool’ and ‘more interesting’ perspective on the pair as we discover their sufferings and challenges, especially as Steve Rogers isn’t there to guide them anymore. It’s going to be funny, action-filled and quite frankly, awesome. Original release date was August last year but we hope to see the new date, 19th of March 2021 confirmed soon.
Another Disney+/Marvel Studios epic we are actively anticipating. Loki is the ‘Marmite’ of MCU – but whether you love or hate him, we all want to know more about him. Tom Hiddleston is back as the title role who travels through time with the tesseract he stole and leads him into his own time-trap. Hiddleston had a large input into the series, having played Loki on many occasions and revealing things about the character we are simply dying to know. Due to be released in May, we are on the edge of our seats already.
Last of the Disney+ series based on the already existing MCU characters. Hailee Steinfeld joins Jeremy Reynor as the lead duo in this new series giving a different perspective on the well-known Clint Barton and his new protégée that he’s training, Kate Bishop. The negative? Filming has only just begun in December and the series is set to air later on in the year so we will have to keep on the lookout for teasers as this fascinating story comes to light.
Absolutely loving the concept and story of this upcoming Pakistani-American girl from New Jersey who writes superhero fiction and develops shapeshifting powers the more she writes. A 16-year old called Khamala Khan AKA Ms. Marvel is a good student but struggles to fit in – until she has superpowers of course. Ms. Marvel seems to be around to stay as sources state she is already written in to feature in the upcoming Captain Marvel: 2 film. Filled with intrigue? We are, too.
Set to premiere on HBO Max, the season 3 storyline is almost a mystery to all. Seemingly wrapped up at the end of season 2, we are anticipating the characters will have other challenges to encounter. For instance, at the end of season 2, we are led to believe that Kori is torn between her role in the Titans and her own family affairs, definitely leading to some interesting dynamics in the upcoming season. The big question on our lips, however, is the departure of Jason Todd from the team and if he will become obsessed with taking down his previous allies? We will be watching…
Some of the legends have gone, we know, and some are coming back, but what we are excited about is where else they can go and what else they can do. This series has never been short of action and the upcoming season is set to be no different with a possible extraterrestrial dynamic being added to the plot. Of course, aliens are not all the 6th season is about – we can expect to see some romance, villains, and of course danger. This is DC at its most creative and we are really looking forward to this action-packed sequel.
Another end to a long-running DC series, we are yet to look forward to a 20-episode extended final season. Will Kara finally have a budding romance? Will Lex Luther be defeated once and for all? Can we expect Kara and her cousin, Superman, to team up one last time? Hopefully, this last season will wrap up the open-ended storylines and give the fans some well-deserved closure. It’s all pretty open and we are definitely anticipating the series going out with a bang.
After the critically acclaimed first season of Stargirl, the fans have been left wanting more as it ended with a dramatic cliffhanger. Courtney Whitmore and her rallied friends are back and, despite defeating many of the villains in the first season, they still need to defeat Starman who was confirmed to still be alive in the season one finale. What about that mysterious pen that has been sitting on Courtney's desk? We can see the plot thickening and we are excited about it.
This season will air exclusively on HBO Max and is one of the most-watched originals on the platform. During the second season, Chief’s life had been prolonged by the team, allowing him to care for his daughter, Dorothy; but, with emotion, at every turn the season’s finale left us with many unanswered questions: Is Miranda actually Kay’s father or a figment of her imagination? And what will happen to Cliff after his body exploded into pieces? Will Dorothy finally control her powers and be able to fight Candlemaker and save her friends? Weird and wacky, this series offers it all and we are predicting a full-on third season.
Amazon is delivering part three of this nail-biting story. A series constantly leaving its viewers nervous and in suspense, the story and cinematography is quite simply remarkable on all levels. If you haven’t yet seen the first two series, it is a definite 2021 bucket list item. Homelander is back, the murderous psychopath who seems to have finally managed to split up the boys and he has a new superhero to play with – SoldierBoy. Homelander has completely snapped and will definitely be the big threat of this third season. We want more of this incredible series.
This dark series is, much to fans’ excitement, finally delivering part two of the fifth season. Prematurely cancelled by the CW as they focused on the DC series and now resurrected by Netflix, the second half has been long-awaited after being disrupted due to the pandemic and will come to us in 2021. Tom Ellis is simply brilliant in the title role and we can expect to see a big lead up to the final sixth season. Mix together the powers of Satan and a terrible control over his emotions, it’s a cocktail of nail-biting ingredients and we are dying to watch it.
The graphic novel series that has won the World Fantasy Award for short fiction and the Bram Stoker Award is coming to us at some point in 2021 on Netflix. The main character, Dream, AKA Morpheus (the dream of the endless), is an ancient being with evil siblings who have existed since the beginning of time. Could this be the biggest dysfunctional family in a superhero series? Could Death be the kindest of them all? Realising he cannot control everything, Dream has to realise that everything must change, including himself. To say we are excited about this one would be an understatement.
